 August

Summer ended with a splash and not because we were all out enjoying hot, sunny weather at the beach.

When it rains, it pours, and in a way, summer did end with a bang too.. But also a few claps and flashing skies.

Nevertheless, August was a great month. A month that has seen considerable growth for my Instagram, clocking in at a little over 300 in the last week (and I didn't even cheat with third party apps and sites!).

It's also been a month of renewed effort and refining across the board for my photography. I've been putting out, what I believe to be my most consistent, high quality work; to date. If you've been following my work over on Instagram (www.instagram.com/whiteglare) you may  will have noticed.

This post contains several of my favourites taken this month (not all) along with images taken for memories sake during family day's/trip's out. Enjoy them!

University

Before I go on to talk about the main subject of this post, I'd like to share with you a few shots taken at my family's BBQ for my parent's silver wedding anniversary:

Now, onto the big story.

For the past couple of years, I have been contemplating applying for University. For a few reasons, I never actuated on any of my plans of applying. Reasons including the fact I hadn't gotten the grades in the subjects required for course entry, I never even studied them.

This year however, I decided it was now or never. I booked myself an open day viewing back in May and attended in early June. That day was a turning point.

The facilities, equipment, environment, lecturers and the course itself where all very impressive. I instantly felt I was on the right path, that this is what I should do and where I should be.

So, shortly after I rather dishearteningly (because I was so late) began applying. I never really believed I had much of a chance, I applied up to 6 months later than the first applicants, I didn't have any of the required grades and for an entire month, the incompetence of the College in which I last studied, meant I couldn't send of the application, for lack of referral.

Finally, with just four days until the application deadline, I was able to send of my application.

Around three weeks later, I had received an offer. How? Well, despite all of my shortfalls, I did have one saving grace, my portfolio. Accompanying my application was an email with links to my Flickr portfolio album, this blog, my Etsy shop and my instagram profile.

Thankfully, and rather flatteringly, they was impressed enough by my portfolio alone to offer me the place.

I accepted the offer yesterday, I start this September.

Race weekend -

For my birthday over the May day bank holiday weekend, I returned to Brands Hatch after an almost three year hiatus. It's the first time I've visited Brands hatch, well, any racetrack, since purchasing my DSLR. So, I used the opportunity to attempt shooting motorsport (or even simply fast moving subjets) for the first time.

As I wanted to capture cars in motion whilst still retaining a sense of that said motion, I had to use a technique known as tracking. I'm very pleased with what I managed to capture, bare in mind I only spent around 5 minutes out of the entire day taking pictures.

Here's my favourite:

What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

Rain, wind and hail -

When it rains, it also hails and blows a gale. The weather wasn't exactly favourable, but despite this, it was still an enjoyable walk in an area that I haven't visited for many years.
